Program Eligibility
- Be a recent tertiary qualified in computer science, engineering, or a related field
- You are aged between 18 and 35 years old
- You are currently unemployed
- You are not involved in any other work placement or internship program
- Have a strong interest and passion for website development
- Have excellent written and verbal communication in English
- Have proficient knowledge and skills in HTML, CSS, JavaScript and at least one web framework
- Have experience with version control, such as Git, and cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure
- Be able to work independently and as part of a team
- Willing to commit to a 12-month program
- You are a citizen of South Africa, Kenya, or Rwanda

FAQs
Is there a wage associated with this program?
Whilst in the Work Experience Program you are considered to be in training. As such you do not receive a wage but a stipend – an allowance to help you cover basic expenses such as travel to and from the training facility or workplace and meals while you are at the training facility.
What does it cost to apply for the program?
There is no application fee or any costs throughout the program. Participants are responsible for their own transport and expenses to and from the GEC Hub.
What is the duration of the program?
The program has a 12-month commitment requirement.
Will we be working from home?
You will be working from one of our centrally located, state-of-the-art GEC Hubs. Our aim is to provide you with all the tools you need to succeed, including hardware, on-site career coaches as well as high-speed internet and reliable electricity. You will also be part of the GEC community and able to interact with your peers.
We will not make any exceptions to requests to work from home.
Do I need my own computer/laptop?
Having your own fit-for-purpose laptop is ideal. However, we are able to provide you with a desktop to work from in the GEC Hub.
